Michael currently serves as president of the board of directors of ATOU. An active participant in sports of all kinds, he has also been involved in coaching with the Eureka Youth Soccer Club and Lakeside Little League for the past 12 years.

Bob Schultz currently serves as an instructor at Brandman University in Roseville and a writer and consultant for the Association of California School Administrators. Bob spent 16 years teaching and twenty years as an administrator in public schools across California, including ten years in the Eureka Union School District where he retired as Superintendent in 2008.

Stanford lives in Roseville and is married with two wonderful boys. Professionally, Stanford is a financial advisor and has owned his own practice managing long-term investment assets and creating customized financial strategies for clients since 1994. Stanford is also an Adjunct Professor of Business at Sierra College.

My name is Darlene O’Brien, and I have been associated with A Touch of Understanding for over eight years now. I am 45 years old and a single mother of two teen-aged daughters, Bailie, who is 19, and Kelsie, who is 16. I originally came on board with the organization as a speaker, as I lost my sight completely ten years ago in November of 1998.

Gregory Buch is a behavioral psychologist and doctoral-level board certified behavior analyst. Dr. Buch served as Clinic Supervisor of Children, under the direction of autism treatment pioneer Ivar Lovaas. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Buch has directed intensive early intervention programs, published on intensive behavioral treatment, and consulted nationally and internationally for school districts, treatment facilities and research clinics. Dr. Buch is currently the director of Pacific Autism Learning Services (PALS). |

Many people find service as a board member of a not-for-profit organization to be a fulfilling way to “give back” to the community – a way of sharing the experiences and wisdom accumulated through decades of life and career experience.
Prospective board members come from all walks of life and bring varied experience to the Board. The ability to understand financial reporting and to make business decisions is essential, and often board members have subject-area experience, for example, experience in management or law. Collectively, board members have the experience to recognize and approve plans and strategies that will move the organization toward its goals.
